In order for any piece to have a chance at being successful it must be read. After all if no one reads it no one is going to get to the part where you ask for the sale. To be read the sales copy must immediately attract the attention of the target audience.

This is done in many ways but typically speaking it is done with an eye catching headline that strikes home with a particular problem that your target audience has. It may also suggest or even spell out a common benefit that these people are looking for.

This is part of the personalization that you will need to employ and therefor you need to do some research that will reveal to you the most sought after benefit your product or service has to offer.

Say for instance that you are selling exercise equipment. As many people that have bought exercise equipment in the past will know that they may use it when they first get it, but after the initial impulse is gone, it sits in the corner collecting dust. This means that ease of use or lack of time needed each day would be an enormous benefit.

In this instance a good headline would be “Sculpt Your New Body In Only 3 Minutes A Day!” This is an example of personalizing because it is something that will strike home to them and give them a direct benefit they want.

This however is not enough. You need to back it up in your first paragraph and continue the personalization through the rest of the sales letter for it to be effective. This is what top copywriters know all too well. That is why they ask all the questions about the product and the people that buy the product.

What they want to know is how to talk directly to them, as if they were chatting with an old friend, telling them about something they know will benefit them. Talking there language and getting them to visualize themselves using the product is what makes people want to buy it. If they can see themselves using it and reaping the benefits of it then the sale is almost assured.

The message has to be written so they believe it. People mostly buy from someone they Know, Like and Trust. If you can personalize the message you will get them to do just that and you’ll enjoy making more conversions.

Advertising is an art form that requires creativeness and the use of elements that will first grab the potential customer’s attention and compel that person to read, or at least scan the advertisement or website.

Advertising done well is not just random clip art and words. An advertisement needs to be carefully planned by an expert to reap the full benefit of the money spent for placing the ad. Of course you can try to create you own advertisements and save the expense of a professional, but if spending the money will more than pay for itself in the revenues received, then you will realize hiring a professional is an expense you can warrant.

The advantages a professional can give you are enormous. It is not simply the layout or the message or the use of art work and white space. It is the melding of these features that makes an effective advertising tool. A professional will construct your print ad or brochure using the skills and perceptions gained over years of experience. Natural abilities and talent also come into play and is simply something that cannot be replaced.

When you hire an advertising professional you will begin to see that you have made a wise decision, because results will soon be seen in your bottom line. But it is not enough to just have professionally constructed print material, you must also have a marketing plan.

Who are your customers

How do you reach your customers

What can you provide to solve their problem

How will your product or service improve their lives

Can you prove the claims and help them live the dream

There are two choices:

1. Keep going as you are and your sells will probably drop and you’ll be out of business.
2. Create a marketing plan, pull in more targeted traffic and increase your conversion rate with superior sales copy that presells your customers.

The choice is yours to make, but if you want to thrive in a hostile, very competitive marketplace you need to have someone in your corner that can give you the edge you need. I will give you a free one-hour consultation to go over your situation and discuss how I might be able to help.

Whatever you do in your life try to enjoy it. You will be more of a success and you will have fun at the same time. Look at people that are successful. They are doing what they like to do. If you are going to a job that you dread, look to change it. I’m not saying that you should go in and quit your job tomorrow, what I’m saying is that you should weigh your options, look at what you enjoy doing and see if there is a way to make that your profession.

Perhaps there is a hobby you enjoy or there is something you have picked up along the way explore that as a means of something you may do that you would enjoy more than what you are doing now.

The Internet is one way that you can begin a business of your own very inexpensively. If you know anything about anything you can sell that information to other that wish to know it. Begin by writing down what you know and you will be surprised at the knowledge you have amassed.

Once you have this list look over the Internet and I bet you will find someone out there already selling it. If there is a lot of somebody’s selling it then you may have just stumbled onto you niche. Don’t be scared off if you see that you would have a lot of competition, just make your better, cheaper and/or easier to find.

Imagine not having to commute to work through rush hour traffic. Having time off whenever you want without having to okay it with your boss. Then there is the potential for making more money than you have ever deemed possible.

Of course you have to have a plan. There is much to learn before going into business for yourself online. Luckily for you there is loads of free information to be found on the Internet.

The first thing you will need to learn is how to make a website. This is a task you can learn with an HTML editor I suggest you download a “What You See Is What You Get” (WYSIWYG) HTML editor.

Next you will need to have a name for your website and some artwork that will make it attractive. To do this will probably not make you any money, but it will make your site more attractive to your visitors.

Content is going to be very important on your site and you will need to have something professionally written to get the most visitors you can to convert into customers. You should also have free content available on your site. This and the product you are offering need to be of value. The free information you give is there to build trust, make you appear to be an expert and to give them a reason to come back.

The best way to get them to come back is to offer something like a newsletter on a regular basis that they can sign up to get. Write them an immediate personal email (automated of course) so they will know that they are going to receive emails from you from time to time. In this way those customers that did not buy from you in the first may buy from you later.

Study the keywords that people will use to find you and try to get as high a ranking as you can, using them. It is best to have links from other sites to yours, but make sure they are related sites or else it will count against you. Have an about page, a privacy statement page and a contact page on your site as well to score high on the search engines.

You will undoubtedly get discouraged from time to time, but remember the reason for all the hard work and sacrifice. There is a pot of gold waiting for you if you persevere. Keep studying and learning at whatever pace you can stand. It is true that 96% of all the businesses started on the Internet will fail, but those that fail are the ones that failed to plan and did not learn what they needed to make theirs a success.

I would wish you the best of luck in your endeavor, but it is not luck that will see you through. I know if you just keep to your task and continue to learn all that you can about the business you begin you will eventually become successful. And when it is all said and done you too will be saying, “Let the good times roll”.

No matter which media you’re using headlines are necessary for sales. This is because a headline, if done well, will attract the reader’s attention. Once you have their attention you will need to continue to keep their attention, but that is a subject for another place and time.

There are several headline themes that work. When you sit down to write a headline, first decide which theme would work best for the campaign you have in mind. If you’re not sure which method will work it is best to try writing a headline using several strategies. Once you have them written test them out on yourself, friends and family to see which one grabbed their attention most effectively.

Since the headline is the most important part of your campaign it will be responsible for about 80% of your success. Here are eight headline themes to get you started on the right track.

Getting Right To The Point – Just basically say it. Don’t try to be clever or amusing. Don’t use puns; just say it in a straightforward way. Most often used when the offer is a clear solution to the problem or if you have a very strong offer. It also works well when you have a well-known product or service or if you are promoting a brand name that is very recognized.

Instant Tax Refund
Two Suits For The Price Of One
Be the first to receive your free buyers guide to foreclosure properties

Main Benefit – Starting off telling the reader about the main benefit will give you a more targeted audience. They will only continue to read if this benefit appeals to them. This is your chance to use excitement and to start preselling your product or service.

Get The Body You’ve Always Wanted
Create Wealth Few Can Only Dream About
Free Video With Every Purchase

Make It Newsy – Instead of the typical headlines you see make it appear like a news story headline you see in your daily paper. Some often-used words used by newspapers are: Announcing, Exposed, Discover, Introducing. To find more headline just look at the headlines in any newspaper or tabloid. Don’t laugh tabloids have some of the greatest headlines you’ll ever find.

New Weight Loss Method Exposed
Discover The Newest Way To Grow Tomatoes
Introducing The Latest Techniques To Improve Your Credit Rating

The How-To Headline – One of the most used techniques for writing headlines is the HOW-TO method. The idea here is promising to fill a need that the reader wants to be able to do.

How To Lose 40 Pounds In 40 Days
How To Build The Deck You’ll Love To Use
How To Find The Perfect Home

The Question Headline – This ploy gets the reader involved right off the bat. Pose your question so that it stems off the main benefit of your product or service. The reader should automatically agree with the question and want to know how they can solve the problem posed.

Are You’re Marketing Efforts Paying Off?
Do You Sleep Well Through The Night?
Can You Really Grow New Hair?

Make A Demand – Right off the bat you are leading the customer, telling them exactly what you want them to do. The thought here is if you start off telling them what to do they will continue to do what you want through the entire process. That way when they get to the buy now button they will do that, too.

Be Your Own Boss
Stop Losing Your Hair
Kiss That 9 to 5 Job Away

Information – People come to the Internet for information. It’s what we crave. Information is power. So we want to know the secrets, the tips, the hints, the laws, the rules and the systems that will give us the upper hand.

Just Released Secrets To Success
Free Report On Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease

Testimonial – Having a testimonial in your headline gives credence to your product by giving an unbiased opinion from a third party. It also lets the reader know that someone else has already bought the product and like the results enough to tell others.

“Easy to learn software. I was up and running in 10 minutes”
“I lost 20 pounds in 2 weeks on this diet”
“It was the best product I ever bought”

So you have a product and it is a very good product. One that should appeal to a select group of people. Is this a national group or an international group. Maybe you mostly sell to people in you state or community. No matter where your customers live you need to identify who they are.

The next thing you need to figure out is your demographics. Are the people you sell to old or young, rich or poor, or maybe they belong to a special interest group. Here is a list of questions you can ask:

Age
Gender
Education
Income
Marital status
Ethnicity
Religion
Life Style

You can find this information locally at town hall, library, Chamber of Commerce or you can find information from polling past customers and of course using the internet.

The more detailed you can get the better you can target your sales message. Start by dividing your market into groups and you can narrow down exactly who your product and similar products appeal to. Then there is the most important question you must ask and that is why do they buy your product.

This can be narrowed down to three things:

It makes them feel better.
It solves a problem.
It satisfies a basic need.

Once you have weighed the data and search through data bases you should be able to get a clear picture of who your customer is. If you can you may even be able to picture this person. Maybe you even know someone that would fit the bill.

If so this is great because you want to target that person. You want to write your sales copy as if you’re talking, one-on-one with that person. The next thing you will need to do is decide what direction your message is going to take. In other words what emotion are you going to target.

Some say there are only a few but in actuality there are many emotions you can appeal to get someone compelled to buy your product or service. What emotion is most likely to work is part of targeting your audience. Once you know this person then you will also be able to know what will move them.

Knowing your customer will tell you what benefit to focus on as well. This person buying will buy because of some special reason most generally. Being able to identify this benefit will give your sales copy a better chance of succeeding.

Knowing your customer is imperative for your overall success and research is the key to knowing that customer and what spurs them to buy. So before you write anything find out who you are selling. Then sit down and write like you are talking directly to that person, telling them about some new product or service that you found and are excited about because of the benefits you received.

Making money online is one of the best lives anyone ever created and it’s not just the large amounts of money that can be made. It’s also about the freedom. The freedom to be your own boss. The freedom to work when you want and where you want. The freedom to go watch your kids soccer game. The freedom to take that trip to a place you’ve always wanted to see. The freedom to buy that new car or that new home.

Still not everyone that tries to make a living online succeeds. In fact most people trying to make a living are not doing all that well at all. In fact 95% of the people trying to make money online are failing, 4% are only doing marginally well and 1% are bringing in the big bucks. These are daunting statistics to anyone just starting out or to someone that has been working at it for a short time.

Those that are making money online have discovered the secrets of what it takes to be successful. They have learned that in order for you to receive you must also give. They have built websites that have attracted large amounts of traffic. They have written compelling sales letters that convert visitors into customers, but the most important thing they have is confidence.

We all know that some sports teams are successful year after year, while others never seem to become champions. The ones that do become champions over and over, again and again just believe they are going to win. Businessmen become successful with no more talent than some of those that fail all because the believe in themselves. When you accomplish a goal you’ve set, nine out of ten times it was because you knew you could do it.

This reminds me of the famous quote by Henry Ford, “Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right.” Henry Ford obviously believed he could and there are many other examples of wealthy people who got where they are because they saw an opportunity and believed in themselves enough to really put themselves out there and go for it. The others believe so strongly that they will fail that they either don’t even try at all or if they do try they go into it believing they will fail.

Perseverance is what it takes to succeed in online marketing. Many people quit just before they are going to make it big. However long you’ve been marketing online don’t ever give up the fight. Keep plugging away at it. If your efforts aren’t paying off do some research, learn other ways to market your product or service, go to forums and ask for help, try new things. It will be worth it in the end because you’ll get that freedom I spoke of at the beginning. One place to start is with Confidence Building for Becoming A Millionaire

“I always knew I was going to be rich. I don’t think I ever doubted it for a minute.” – Warren Buffet

Confidence is a key element in becoming a millionaire. Just look at the statement above. Warren Buffet’s confidence exuded from him when he was young and you can have that same confidence just as big and powerful as the millionaire’s that have gone before you.

1. Set small, achievable goals for yourself as you build your quest of wealth. By starting small with your goals you get into the habit of succeeding. If you start by setting your goals too high and fail this will shatter your confidence and it will take time for you to recover. By setting your goals at a lower, more reasonable goal that you will achieve, then your confidence will soar.
2. Record each success in a journal. Put in the accomplishments, testimonials, thank you letters from customers, everything that is positive. Refer to your journal each time you need a little motivation or when you forget why you’re doing this or just to see how far you’ve come in this new venture and just how awesome it is.
3. Network with like-minded people that are also working to achieve success. You need to put yourself in a healthy environment that is conducive to keep yourself motivated and strengthen your confidence. Join social and networking events to meet people just like you. There you will be able to exchange ideas and motivate each other.

Marketing is the art and science of producing sales for a product or service. It is an age-old practice that began when the first person tried to sell something to another for nominal gain. Some of the more notable marketers have etched a name for themselves due to their success and today is no different.

You will see their names plastered all over the Internet known as gurus and marketing experts. Some actual and some self professed. Nevertheless, marketing is how they have amassed a fortune. If you are to realize your own financial success you must learn to utilize the tactics used by those gurus.

To become successful you need 2 things a product and a vehicle used to announce that product to those that wish to buy your product. In fact there are many methods in which to accomplish your objective.

1. Article Marketing
There are many sites that will allow you to post articles for free. How this helps you is they will let you put a link to your site. This creates targeted traffic, which gives you a better chance of converting those visitors into paying customers.
2. Forum Marketing
No matter what your niche there is a forum that caters to it. Find them, join them and lurk around for a while to get the hang of how things work. Then begin posting to threads to offer advice or to thank someone for their words of wisdom. These are also a good way to find out useful information that will actually help you in your endeavors. Again you can place links to your site to get traffic.
3. Free Classified Ads
These are just like what they seem. You can go to these sites and put up classified ads for free to get traffic to your site. The secret here is being able to write effective ads. Of course they need to go under the proper category and should be written so they give the reader enough information to make them want more.
4. Search Engine Optimization
Volumes have been written on this subject but what it really boils down to is using keywords in your HTML source code (<meta name=”keywords” content=”your keywords go here”>) and in your content. But that is nowhere near all there is to it. There are other factors involved, such as the age of the website, the amount of traffic, the quantity and quality of competition. I understand that you have no control over these factors except the amount of traffic, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention them. Some would say that this isn’t marketing, but anything that brings traffic to your site is marketing.
5. Press Releases
These are another real good source of free advertising just because the public views them as news stories. The trick here is to make it sound like a news story while you sell. It can be done and when it is done right it can be very successful.
6. Social Marketing
Many marketers have turned their focus or at least a portion of it to marketing through social sites like myspace, facebook or one of the many others. It seems as though these are not just a place where little Jenny can put up her pictures and talk about what one friend said about another. Serious money is being made through marketing efforts through these sites. So, go, make friends, get a following and market your brains out.
7. Networking and Master Mind Groups
In your area you can find people that meet regularly to discuss things of like interest. You may get some business from it, but you will mostly benefit because you will get ideas that can really help propel your business.

Advertising is meant to be a promotion that brings you business that exceeds the cost of the advertising you are doing. It is the most important part of your business because if done right it will bring you customers and that is its purpose. Yes, it is important to treat your customers well, but until you have customers you don’t have a business, you have a hobby. The more customers you can attract the more successful you will be. The trick is to attract as many customers as you can with the least amount of money.

Many business owners believe that advertising is a waste of their money and they are right. The reason their right is because they don’t do it correctly. There are two kinds of advertising. The first kind is what most businesses practice and that is passive advertising. This most likely comes in the form of a yellow pages ad, possibly a print ad in some publication or another or a website that doesn’t attract any attention because it’s on page 657 in the google search.

Effective advertising is active advertising and that is the main reason word of mouth advertising works so well. Word of mouth advertising occurs when someone knows someone else is interested in what you have to sell and tell him or her about you. Why this is so effective is because it is targeted at someone interested in your product or service and it is coming from a trusted source.

Email marketing to a targeted audience is another way to get good result from advertising because you know they are in the market for your product or service because they have indicated this in some way, shape or form. These are generally someone who has done business with you before and will likely do so again or they have opted-in to a list to get some further information from you, usually for free.

I do not advocate spam of any kind and believe you would be wasting you time doing so anyway, because you will have lost any hope of gaining their trust. I have gotten email from people that I didn’t illicit communications from and instantly deleted their message without reading it for the simple reason they had not gained my trust.

Networking is another good form of active advertising and there are many ways you can network with little or no investment. Forums, blogs and local meetings are just a few ways to network with people who may become customers or may point you to new customers.

There are many ways to actively advertise your business, be creative and if it draws customers to your doors or website then continue to do it. After all that is the main purpose of advertising. Contrary to popular belief, advertising will not sell a product or service, but it will provide traffic to your business. This traffic is looking for a solution and once they are there and you can convince them that your product or service will provide that solution you will make a sale.

A good print ad immediately draws the reader’s eye directly to it and then keeps their attention long enough for you to get your point across. They don’t have to read it word for word they just have to remember it. If they scan it that is usually good enough, provided you have highlighted the key points. But all this is in vane if it doesn’t even get noticed. After all you typically have about 3 to 5 seconds to grab somebody’s attention.

Grabbing their attention can be done in a couple of ways; with eye-catching artwork or with an innovative headline, if it has both so much the better. The artwork should be relative to the subject and the headline should be related to the subject matter of the ad.

Color on a predominately black and white page can also attract attention, but remember color costs money and therefore the use of it needs to be worth the cost. If you have one color and another ad on the same page has full color you are going to be spending your money uselessly. This is true especially if the full color ad is noticeably larger.

The use of color is also going to depend on the publication. Check to see if there is a particular section where you feel your ad will do well and advertise in that section. Notice what your competition is doing and whether they are using color or not.

Another way to grab your reader is to be the dominant ad on the page or even the only ad on the page. Ads naturally grab readers attention if they are done right, i. e. they need some element that leads the reader to the ad. Then to keep them there long enough to read the ad you must fulfill a want or desire.

Of course to be effective the ad must have a call to action, but that is a subject for another article.

Getting the word out, to get customers coming in.

Where do you begin advertising your new online business, is the question most new owners ask themselves and others. It can be a real dilemma and can sometimes even become overwhelming to say the least. The Internet is a wonderful place to find out all kinds of things, but it very scary place for the novice wanting to advertise.

Most online businesses are run out of the home, but should be treated like any brick and mortar business. It will only work if you work at it, so don’t believe all the hype you see. You know the ones I mean, where they are telling that you can make a fortune and only work an hour a day. Not only do you need to work at, but also you must persevere even if you don’t see results at first.

There are many ways to advertise on and off the Internet to get your business off the ground. Some of these methods are free while others cost money. The ones that you pay for can range from a dollar a day to hundreds, even thousands of dollars. So going this route can sometimes mean having deep pockets. Then there are the free advertising options. Like so many things, if it doesn’t cost you money it cost you time and this is no exception.

So let’s get on with the subject at hand and start off with some advertising methods:

Pay-Per-Click (PPC)

There are as many PPC programs available, but the 3 most used are Google, Yahoo and MSN. With PPC you bid on keywords and write ads that will appear on the search engine pages when anyone searches for the keywords you have selected. This can be very lucrative yet can be expensive to begin with. The risk you are taking is that the clicks you have to pay for will result in enough sales to more than offset the amount you pay for them.

Article Marketing

There are many sites that cater to online business owners that want to get traffic to their sites through article marketing. This is a mutually beneficial arrangement for both parties. The idea is that you write articles that you submit to their site, which keeps them supplied with fresh, new content and in return you get to put a link in your bio or profile to any site you choose.

Remember the article needs to be relevant to the site you are pointing to or you lose points with the search engines and certainly won’t get any sales. After all if someone comes looking for a way to grow great tomatoes and find a site about building a deck they’re going to be very put out.

Forum Advertising

This is a very good way to get traffic to your site and it’s free, but it is time consuming. However, there is a side benefit. If you find the right forum you will find a lot of useful information that you can use to promote your business. If you get into the spirit of things you will also find some new like-minded individuals that you can communicate with and bounce ideas off.

All of the advertising will work, some better than others depending on what you say and how you go about it. Some of the free methods also have an upgrading option that you will cost money. Many times these upgrades will get you faster results, but they can get costly. Upgrading is an option you can always take when you’ve seen results for free.

There are many other methods of advertising such as safe lists, and FFAs, even the old stand by, classified ads both in the paper and online. Be sure to track your advertising methods whenever possible to see if they are working or not. Another couple of pointers is to get backlinks to your site and built a list by capturing your visitor’s names and email addresses so you can keep in touch. Some visitors take a little more convincing and others will be prime subjects to sell new products to.
